SATURDAY, SEPT. 14TH
Mexican Independence Day, celebrated on September 16th, marks the anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s fight for independence from Spanish rule in 1810. This historic day is a time of great pride for Mexicans around the world, commemorating the moment when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bell of his church in Dolores, issuing the famous “Grito de Dolores” or “Cry of Dolores.” This call to arms sparked a movement that would lead to Mexico’s independence after over a decade of struggle.
We celebrate Mexican Independence Day to honor the bravery, resilience, and determination of those who fought for freedom and to recognize the rich cultural heritage that has shaped Mexico into the vibrant and diverse nation it is today. Our celebration on Saint Paul’s West Side brings together the community to remember this significant moment in history, to celebrate our shared heritage, and to pass on the stories and traditions that keep our culture alive for future generations. This event is a time for family, friends, and the entire community to come together in unity, joy, and pride, celebrating not just the history of Mexico but also the enduring spirit of its people.
